Betsy Carter's Horse Scene

Date published: 11/14/2009

TOMORROW, there is an important seminar for all riders and owners interested in safety. The Virginia Cooperative Extension is hosting a program from 8 a.m,-5 p.m. on first aid and CPR for horse and rider at the Warren County Government Center in Front Royal.

Certified and noncertified classes are being offered, following the American Heart Association curriculum. Instruction will concentrate on handling accidents or emergencies in barns, on trailers, at shows, on trails or in the riding ring.

Past incidents will be used to teach participants to handle emergencies and other first aid needs. Topics will include bleeding wounds, heart attacks and broken limbs.

For more information, contact Crystal Smith, animal science extension agent at Crystal.
