William Lloyd Garrison was a Boston editor who published The Liberator, an abolitionist newspaper, in 1831. Garrison was one of the most outspoken leaders of the abolitionist movement. He believed in the immediate release of all African-Americans from slavery. Because of what Garrison did, he gained many followers who also believed in the abolitionist cause. Garrison said, "We must burst the shackles of slaves."
