The Death of a President

By Tera Jo Stine
Civil War Reporter

As President Lincoln was relaxing and enjoying a play in the Ford's Theater, a man that seemed like a ghost in the darkess, shot him in the back of the head. This ghostly person was a man named John Wilkes Booth. Booth hated President Lincoln because he saw him as a tyrant. Booth was furious with Lincoln's ideas about rights to vote. So, at first Booth wanted to kidnapp the president, but that plan fell through. John Wilkes Booth snuck into the theater unnoticed with the plan to kill the president. As the president watched a performance, John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in the back of his head with a 44-davanger gun. Everyone throughout history will remember Lincoln and what he did for our country. They will also know about a very mean, selfish, cruel man that wanted Lincoln dead.
