As a Stafford County resident, I would like to publicly thank and commend the Quantico Young Marines for their recent litter removal project conducted along U.S. 1.

These young Americans and their dedicated leaders forfeited their Saturday morning in an attempt to improve the quality of life in our community by filling numerous orange bags with a plethora of items that mysteriously appear on the side of the road.

It is unfortunate that residents of this county so freely and knowingly destroy our environment through their selfish and inconsiderate actions by throwing cans, bottles, food wrappers, cigarette butts, etc., onto the side of the road. It is truly an embarrassment on the part of the adult population of this county that we must depend on these outstanding future leaders to clean up our roadways from the trash, litter, and junk that is continually discharged from passing vehicles.

All Stafford County residents should follow the actions of the Quantico Young Marines and take pride in our county by placing trash in the appropriate receptacles. Quantico Young Marines, thanks for your efforts in making Stafford County a better place to live.
