A funeral for Velma Florence Campbell Shiffler, 78, of Spotsylvania County will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with Chaplain Edward Leis officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Shiffler died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Wilburn Gardens in Fredericksburg.

She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1943 to 1945. She was a member of the WAVES National, the Franklin Women's Club and the Business and Professional Women's Association. She also served on the board of directors of the Women's Resource Center in Fredericksburg.

She was the widow of James Harry Shiffler.

Survivors include two daughters, Elisabeth Allaire of Leesburg and Marguerite Shiffler of Fredericksburg; a son, George R. Shiffler of Fredericksburg; a brother, Reed E. Campbell of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
