Owner offers reward for stolen horses
Date published: 6/7/2002
Hereabouts, you'd think the days of horse thievery were long since gone. Think again.
A Spotsylvania County man says someone made off with two of his horses from his farm on Partlow Road sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Indications are the thieves had a trailer to make their getaway.
Owner Greg Newman says they knew the two most expensive horses to take, too. He says there were seven horses on the property. The thieves took a 16-year-old quarter-horse stallion from a stall in the barn. He says that horse had been sold for $12,000 and the buyer had yet to pick it up.
The other horse, a 2-year-old quarter horse filly, is valued at $3,000. It was in a field with two other horses that got loose. The others were later found near the barn.
Newman is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of the two horses.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office is also offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 582-5822. Callers don't have to give their names.
