Spotsylvania bulldozing its tourist attractions
Spotsylvania bulldozing its tourist attractions

The headlines in the Sept. 25 paper are very humorous ["Tourism plan stirs jealousy" and "Spotsylvania: We get the short end of the stick"]. Poor Spotsylvania! Why do tourists come to Spotsylvania?
The only attractions that I know of are what is left of the Civil War battlefields. So instead of considering bulldozing all our battlefields to create housing developments and associated businesses, why not make an effort to preserve what is left of them?
Would a tourist drive out from California to see a road sign that says, "Near here to the north where all them houses are was where the battle of Chancellorsville had its opening day." I hardly think so.
Please wake up, county supervisors! If you want tourists, let's have something for them to see.
