Chancellor project will affect Orange

Date published: 10/13/2002

I would like to respond to the letter of Jo Ann Ashton of Locust Grove regarding allowing the building of the town of Chancellorsville ["Don't let outsiders, nontaxpayers sway Spotsy decision," Sept. 21].

I think that those of us who live west of that area, in Orange County, will be impacted by the building of so many homes, because of the traffic congestion and the probable addition of more stores and businesses.

Another problem is the question of whether or not we have an adequate supply of water to support such additional construction. The drought conditions we've had during the past three years continue to plague this whole area.

Since the neighbors of this prospective community pay for the state roads through their state taxes, and support the businesses in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, I think it would be wise to listen to our opinions and suggestions. We might be able to help everyone concerned arrive at an equitable solution for all.

I hope the property owner, the developer and the Board of Supervisors will carefully weigh the consequences before making a final decision.

Violet Liberti
