Area's beauty being destroyed by too much development

Date published: 10/15/2002

I am a 17-year-old senior at a local Stafford County school. I have been living in Fredericksburg for nearly 11 years. I moved here from San Diego--talk about development, traffic, and pollution. You would think I'd love it here.

To be honest, Fredericksburg is becoming more and more disgusting every day. Houses are going up in my back yard. It takes me almost a half hour to get to work, whereas a year ago it took me 10 minutes. Trash keeps piling up on the sides of what were once beautiful roads. And now they are building 2,500 houses in Chancellorsville, where they are having a drought.

What is wrong with everyone? Fredericksburg is making Virginia look like an asphalt dump. It's not a beautiful experience to drive here anymore. If there are any roads that haven't been touched yet, I'm sure they are on the Silver Cos.' list.

Am I the only one who sees Fredericksburg, "America's Most Historic City," going right down the drain? Keep the beauty alive. Stop the developing.
