Quality of life demands thumbs down on 'Town'

Date published: 3/20/2003

I am against Dogwood Development Group's proposed Town of Chancellorsville because of the traffic and sprawl it would create and because of the location chosen for the town.

When I moved to this county 13 years ago, it was because I enjoyed the rural setting it provided. I am willing to drive to go shopping and willing to sacrifice the convenience of having stores close by in exchange for maintaining our beautiful countryside.

Dogwood will widen only a portion of west-bound State Route 3, leaving the rest of the road more congested than ever, with three times the current traffic. Can you imagine having Central Park with all its traffic in this rural area of the county? That is how it will be if rezoning is approved.

If approved, this town would also be a magnet for sprawl. Numerous strip malls would pop up all around the area, as would more subdivisions.

Please vote against this rezoning and save our county. Do not gamble with our quality of life.
