(Richmond-AP) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in this morning in areas of Virginia still trying to recover from Hurricane Isabel.
The weather service in Wakefield confirmed that an F-Zero tornado, with winds just under 70 miles per hour, touched down in Nottoway County, about a mile east of the town of Crewe.
Survey teams are looking at damage in several other counties and the city of Richmond to determine if other touchdowns could be confirmed.
In Amelia County, a mobile home was thrown about 25 feet from its foundation and completely shredded. Large trees were felled in the Richmond area, with some crashing into homes. Funnel sightings also were reported on the Northern Neck and the Maryland side of the Eastern Shore.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths, but power outages soared by at least 24,000.
Keith Lynch, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the storm moved northeast at about 30-to-35 miles per hour, skimming the heavily populated parts of the northwestern Richmond metro area.
