No taxes? What about costs of rampant growth?

Regarding the coverage of the Lake Wilderness candidates forum ["Taxes the talk at forum," Oct. 12], the article missed a very key point: Although my opponent says he'll never support a tax increase, Claude Dunn fought for and supported the Town of Chancellorsville project on Mullins Farm.
That development would have added to taxpayers' debt service in building more schools and paying for other capital and operational needs.
More debt service means higher taxes. The project also called for raising taxes on small-business owners along State Route 3 to pay for limited road improvements that helped only the developer.
Taking all these facts into account, a rational person would conclude that Dunn's support for the Town of Chancellorsville was in effect an endorsement for higher taxes. So much for his pledge.
As voters know, I fought and voted against the Town of Chancellorsville project. Some of the reasons I did so were because of the adverse impact on taxpayers and the proposed tax hikes on small-business owners.
When looking at the candidates for Chancellor District supervisor, I urge voters to look at our records and not the rhetoric. And remember, "Actions speak louder than pledges!"
