Local man sings in Round 3 of 'Today's Superstar'

Date published: 11/4/2003

By Marty Morrison Chat live with Campbell Friday morning.

Spotsylvania County crooner Anthony Campbell moved a step closer in the "Today's Superstar" competition yesterday. He is among six singers remaining in NBC's "Today" show talent search. After making the cut, Campbell belted out Marc Cohn's "Walking In Memphis" outside the "Today" show studio at Rockefeller Plaza. A jubilant crowd applauded his performance. Among his fans, his wife, Ruth, and 20-month-old son, Elijah, cheered him from the front row.

His reaction: "This song will be fun. It's been done by Marvin Gaye as well as James Taylor. To have the opportunity to sing this song to millions of people is powerful. I hope to be able to do it justice."

His next song: If he makes the cut, Campbell will sing James Taylor's "How Sweet It Is."

Where: NBC's "Today" studio, Rockefeller Plaza.

When: Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
