(Huntington, West Virginia-AP) -- A Seattle woman is biking across the country to protest what she calls the abusive treatment of chickens.

Her destination: the Norfolk headquarters of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Thirty-two-year-old Rachel Bjork is pedaling her bicycle across the United States to draw attention to PETA's campaign against Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Bjork, a vegan (VEE'-gun), has been stopping at KFC locations across the nation to hand out leaflets and discuss what she says are the restaurant chain's cruel practices with each restaurant manager.

Bjork plans to stop at a KFC in Huntington, West Virginia tomorrow.

PETA wants KFC to kill chickens with gas instead of stunning them and slitting their throats. PETA also wants KFC to replace the process of catching the birds by hand with an automated system, which reportedly reduces stress on the chickens.

KFC has accused PETA of engaging in a "misinformation campaign."
