A local 'Superstar'
Numb.
That's how Anthony Campbell of Spotsylvania County felt as NBC talk show host Katie Couric announced his name this morning as the "Today" show's top vocalist.
"I can't describe it," Campbell said in a telephone interview from New York City. "It's surreal. It hasn't registered yet. I still feel like I've got to go home to get ready for another song, but I don't. It's all over."
More than 176,000 viewers voted online earlier in the week for the nationally televised "Today's Superstar" talent search. Only 10,000 votes separated Campbell, a King George County native, from his competitor, Ryan Rothe of Piasa, Ill.
The contestants have been whittled down twice a week for the past month from eight finalists in the talk show's version of the popular "American Idol" contest.
