The red brick house at 2215 Fall Hill Ave. is the perfect new location for Hospice Support Care. Close to Fredericksburg area medical facilities, its rent is $1,000 cheaper per month than the previous standard office space and it's "homier," says the facility's director, Kim Hayden.
In less than a month, volunteers have painted the bland white walls bright, warm colors and completely renovated the basement, all to turn it into an inviting haven for terminally ill clients and their grieving families.
They have been working hard to get it ready for an open house scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 10.
Moving from Lafayette Boulevard to Fall Hill Avenue placed the facility closer to Mary Washington Hospital, the Moss Free Clinic, countless doctors' offices and its own Harbor House--a residential care facility for end-of-life and respite guests--on Washington Avenue. And the money Hospice Support Care is saving in rent will be used to provide more programs and services to its clients.
The nonprofit, nonmedical facility is run by eight part-time employees, one full-time employee and 120 volunteers. Together, they serve more than 50 clients and their families.
