Body spotted by ski lift passenger. Date published: 1/15/2004 (Richmond-AP) -- A James Madison University student died after being injured while snowboarding at Massanutten Resort. Massanutten's director of media relations director Joe Grandstaff confirms in a statement that a 21-year-old man living in Harrisonburg was seriously injured at about 4:30 p-m on Monday. He was flown by Pegasus to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he died late Tuesday. The J-M-U student newspaper, The Breeze, identifies the victim as Kevin Eckerman, a senior from Springfield. The Breeze quotes Lisa Ha, Eckerman's girlfriend, who says Eckerman fractured his skull while snowboarding on a trail at Massanutten. She told the newspaper that no one saw the accident, but that a ski lift passenger saw Eckerman on a trail and alerted the ski patrol.
