Pig is nothing compared to memorials from accidents

Pig is nothing compared to memorials from accidents

Date published: 2/12/2004

Doesn't Stafford County have better things to worry about, like the safety of kids, maybe?

Regarding "Big pig makes county grunt" [Feb. 9]: I don't see where this pig statue could give the county the ability to "improve the aesthetics of the county."

I would much rather see this than the road lined with makeshift memorials because of Stafford County's inability to think before opening schools when the driving conditions are unsafe for veteran drivers, much less, kids trying to get to school on time.

I mean, come on, the county supposedly sends someone from the department of transportation (or whoever is in charge of the buses) out beforehand to travel on some of these roads that are routes to the schools, but these people are used to this kind of driving.

They also need to keep in mind not only the road conditions for driving, but the fact that some children need to walk to bus stops.

I hope the School Board offices will think the next time they decide to open schools (under conditions like Friday's) and risk putting our children in danger.
