Fredericksburg
Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) will host the Restoration Community and Praise Dance Ministry at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in celebration of Black History Month.
Unity Church of Fredericksburg, 3607 Lafayette Blvd., will host spiritual healer Geoffrey Morrell from New Zealand Sunday at 10 a.m. He will speak on "Healing for the Millions."
Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), which formerly met at The Meadows, is now holding meetings Sundays at the Campus Christian Center at 11 a.m. The Christian Center is at 1213 Dandridge Ave.
Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) will hold a Women's Fellowship Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. Darlene Rogers from Cool Spring Church of God in Browntown will be the guest speaker. A gospel sing and puppet show will start at 4 p.m., featuring the Voices of Angels from Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), the Children's Choir from Friendship Baptist Church, and the Sunbeams from Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site).
First Christian Church, 1501 Washington Ave., will hear its pastor, the Rev. Gary Staddan, discuss the fifth commandment, regarding honoring your father and your mother, as part of its continuing series, Sunday at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services.
Spotsylvania County
Spotswood Baptist Church, 4009 Lafayette Blvd., will host the 200-voice National Christian Choir Sunday at 6 p.m. The choir has made numerous recordings. Admission is free. A love offering will be received and signing for the deaf will be available.
Church of the Messiah will start a six-week spiritual series, "Forty Days of Purpose," Sunday, based on The New York Times best seller by Rick Warren, "The Purpose Driven Life." Services will begin at 9 and 10:30 a.m.
Sylvannah Baptist Church, 8400 Courthouse Road, will observe Family Heritage Day Sunday, immediately following the morning worship. An original play, "Remembering Our Heritage," will be presented. A family fellowship dinner will be served after the presentation.
Beulah Baptist Church, Arcadia Road, will hold a Black History Program highlighting the skills of storyteller Muriel Miller Branch, at 2 p.m. today. Branch lives in Richmond and is the author of several black heritage books.
The service will also feature the dance ministry praises of the Halah Women of Virtue and the Judah Boys of Culpeper. Music will be presented by the Bethlehem Men's Chorus and black poetry orations will be given by Joyce Moody and Julia Fauntleroy.
The program will conclude with tours of the church museum and an authentic soul food feast. The Spotsylvania Sunday School Union and Beulah Baptist Church are sponsoring the event.
Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4700 Massaponax Church Road, will host a performance of the play "Left Behind" Saturday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. The play is being presented by Faith Christian Center Church in Spotsylvania County, under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Smith and their Drama Team Ministry. A covered-dish dinner will begin at 3 p.m.
Stafford County
St. William of York Catholic Church will host the Holy Shroud Exhibition in the Holy Family Center adjacent to the church from Tuesday through Sunday, Feb. 24-29. Public exhibition times will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Holy Face Association of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, will present the exhibit at the church for the first time in the United States. It will open following an evening Mass on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday.
The exhibit presents life-sized reproductions of the photographic negatives and photographs of the Holy Shroud of Turin, believed by many to be the one used in the burial of Jesus. Also to be presented will be the history of the shroud and the evidence of geography, medicine and science. The displays include evidence of the coins that covered the eyes, the scourging, the crown of thorns and the tomb.
Fredericksburg United Christian Church, which meets at Brooks Park Activity Center on Butler Road, will hold a gospel sing tonight at 6 p.m. featuring Down Home Gospel Singers.
Union Bell Baptist Church will celebrate the second anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Clarence E. Mays, on Sunday.
Alan Padgent from Dale City will deliver the 11 a.m. message. At 3 p.m., the Rev. Frederick S. Jones, pastor of Star Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Triangle, will be the guest speaker.
Mount Hope Baptist Church, 6823 Harrison Road, will present "The Meeting" Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Bridge, A Church of the Nazarene will host a "40 Days of Purpose" event tonight at 6 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church near Earl's True Value Hardware.
Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), Garrisonville, will host a soul food dinner Saturday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Ronald Rodgers, associate minister at United Faith Christian Ministry in Stafford.
New Hope United Methodist Church, 164 New Hope Church Road, will focus on the Passion of Christ in the message at 8:45 and 11 a.m. Sunday, in reference to the film "Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson.
An evening service will be held on Ash Wednesday at 7 p.m. A nursery will be provided for all services.
King George County
Fletcher's Chapel United Methodist Church, 8330 Fletcher's Chapel Road, will hold a special Ash Wednesday worship service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Imposition of ashes will be included. The message will be "Why Ashes?"
St. Paul's Episcopal Church will hold its annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper, Tuesday, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and donations will be accepted at the door. The church is located at the corner of State Routes 206 and 218.
Trinity United Methodist Church, 9425 Kings Highway, will hold a pancake supper at 5:30 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday. A vespers service will follow at 7 p.m. The message will be "How Deep Is Your Faith."
Hanover Baptist Church will host Carroll Markham on Sunday as guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service.
Markham, a native of Fredericksburg, accepted Christ after graduating from high school. He received his doctorate from Fredericksburg Bible Institute and is currently teaching at the Institute.
Markham has pastored Bethlehem Baptist Church in Essex Country, and Montaque Baptist Church and Community Baptist Church. He is currently doing supply preaching in area churches.
St. Stephens Baptist Church will hold its annual Black History celebration Sunday at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Leon Hudson from First Union Baptist Church, Tappahannock, as guest preacher. The theme and colors will be African. Dinner will be served.
Peace Lutheran Church, 10365 Luther Lane, will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, preceded by a pancake supper at 5:30 p.m. Lenten services will be held on Thursdays, March 4 to April 1, at 7 p.m.
Caroline County
Zion Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its annual ushers day Sunday at 3 p.m. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Wayne Robinson from Bethlehem Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, will be the guest.
Mount Oni Baptist Church's Christian Education Ministry will host its annual Black History program, "Array of Black Talent," Sunday at 4 p.m. The musical groups In Faith of Richmond and the Johnson Sisters of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Hanover will be the guests. The Anointed Praise Team of Mount Oni Church will also be in concert. A special Black History monologue by Ashlie Carey and home-cooked ethnic foods will be included.
First Baptist Church, 9262 Guinea Station Road, Woodford, will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Long Branch Baptist Church, Woodford, will host a concert featuring the Voices of Praise of Caroline County and the Mass Choir of Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site) in Stafford, at 3 p.m. Sunday. The program is being sponsored by the Music Ministry at the church in recognition of Black History Month. Light refreshments will be served after the program.
Westmoreland County
Morning Star Baptist Church Male Chorus will celebrate its anniversary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Grant's Hill Baptist Church, Leedstown, will sponsor a joy night for the youth today at 4 p.m. All youth are welcome to attend. Artist Leonard Harper II from Are You Ready Records in Landover, Md., will present Christian rap hip-hop.
First Baptist Church, Colonial Beach, will celebrate the 53rd anniversary of its Gospel Chorus Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Fauquier County
Silver Hill Baptist Church, Bealeton, will observe its annual day for the Ambassadors of Faith at 3 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Howard Butler, pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church in Orange County, will be the guest speaker. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m.
