(Washington-AP) -- Riding Metro will cost more, but the subway will open earlier on weekdays. The Metro Budget Committee is approving plans to start service at five a.m. Monday through Friday.
They're also signing off on about $29 million in fare hikes to close a budget gap. The minimum subway fare will climb 15-cents to a buck-35. Local bus riders will see a nickel hike to a $1.25, though the committee voted against increasing the weekly bus pass.
