Date published: 6/11/2004 (Washington-AP) -- Many of D.C.'s well-trafficked thoroughfares will be closed for part of the day to usher the former president's casket from the U.S. Capitol building to the National Cathedral for a state funeral. Police say the road closures will be further complicated by some 26 dignitaries traveling to the cathedral from different directions. Their motorcades may require additional road closures or traffic escorts. The funeral procession is expected to leave Capitol Hill between 10:30 and 10:45 this morning. It will travel west on Constitution Avenue, south on Third Street, west on Independence Avenue and north on 17th Street. The procession will then head west on Pennsylvania Avenue, north on 22nd Street, west on Massachusetts Avenue, and north on Wisconsin Avenue. Police say the procession route and intersecting streets will close 30 minutes before the procession.
