While people continue to look for places to get their flu shot out of the back of a van is not one of them.

Tim Murtaugh with the Attorney General's Office says an investigation is underway into complaints of consumers being approached by people offering flu shots in shopping center parking lots. He says there's a number of reasons not to deal with those people.

He says there's no telling if the vaccine given out of the back of van is fake or even harmful.

Murtaugh says "someone who's responsible, someone who is dispensing important health care services, such as the flu shots, would not be doing so out of the back of a van in a parking lot."

Consumers who have been the target of a such a scam should contact the Attorney General's Office at (804) 786-2071 or the Office of Consumer Affairs at (804) 786-2042.

Murtaugh says that local health department officials should also be notified.
