Stafford missionary OK in Thailand after tsunami
Graham and Carole Green woke up Sunday morning to an unsettling message on their cell phone from their daughter, Meghann, a missionary in Thailand.
"Don't freak out," Meghann's said on the recording. "I'm fine. I'm sure you'll see what's happening in the news. Call me later."
The Greens of Stafford County soon learned the fourth largest earthquake in recorded history devastated parts of south Asia over the Christmas weekend.
The undersea quakes triggered enormous tidal waves, which swept across the Indian Ocean, striking coastal regions of Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Thailand and elsewhere.
More than 22,000 people are estimated to be dead and the number is rising.
Meghann Green, 26, sent an e-mail to family and friends yesterday informing them that she was safe.
She was in Chiang Mai, a city in northern Thailand, at the time of the quake.
"For the first time in my life, I felt the ground shaking In my dazed state, I actually thought a really big truck had just driven by!" she wrote.
