He should be starting his senior year in Culpeper County High School. Instead, Guyian Lee Galimore is going to jail.
Under terms of a plea agreement, Galimore was sentenced to 10 years in prison yesterday after pleading guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child.
But even a prosecutor acknowledged that the 11-year-old girl looked "at least 14 or 15" and willingly had sex with Galimore, who had turned 18 just a few days before the July incident.
Nine years of Galimore's sentence was suspended, but he will be required to register with the Virginia State Police as a sex offender after he serves his year.
According to Culpeper Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Janine Perez, the Maryland girl had been left in the custody of a Culpeper relative by her mother because of behavioral problems at home. On the night of July 12, the girl left the relative's home and was reported to police as a runaway.
Perez said the girl went to a fast-food restaurant in Culpeper, where she chanced to meet Galimore and a friend. Within minutes, according to the prosecutor, she had invited herself into the car with the two teens and eventually ended up "kissing" in the back seat with Galimore.
Perez said the three drove around for a time and then Galimore and the girl got into his car and wound up parking in a friend's driveway. After a trip to the store to buy condoms, they returned to the driveway and had sex, the prosecutor said.
Sheriff's deputies were alerted to the girl's whereabouts about midnight. Following an interview "where Mr. Galimore fully co-operated," the 18-year-old was arrested, Perez said. He told police that he thought the girl was at least 14 or 15, Perez said.
Neither Galimore nor his attorney, Scott Goodman of Charlottesville, disputed any of Perez's evidence. Goodman told the court his client had a spotless record before his arrest.
