Marines name building for decorated general
The Marine Corps Combat Development Center building will be dedicated at 11 a.m. tomorrow as the Gen. Raymond G. Davis Center.
The building opened March 31, 1996, but had not been named.
Davis, who died in 2003, was at one time the most decorated living Marine. He served in three wars--World War II, Korea and Vietnam--and participated in major military campaigns such as Guadalcanal, Chosin Reservoir and Peleliu. Among his awards were the Medal of Honor, the Navy Cross, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with combat V, Purple Heart and two Silver Stars.
Davis was known as an innovator, formulating several maneuver warfare concepts.
During retirement, he was an advocate for his fellow Marines and helped push for the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington.
