Downtown Fredericksburg's parking deck is open. Hooray!

Bedecked

ABIG TIP of Lance's cap goes to the Fredericksburg City Council members who, ignoring calls for a redundant "study" of downtown parking needs, voted to build the parking deck that opened last week at Sophia and Wolfe streets. Attractive and complementary of Old Town architecture, the deck provides 300 more spaces to a business district that truly needed them--not another sheaf of papers to catch dust.

City government deserves credit for involving Fredericksburg residents in the planning phase of the project. Many of them had good ideas about how large a downtown deck should be, how it should appear, and so on. Donley's, the contractor, appears to have worked efficiently and well to implement the final design.

The deck, an important public amenity, signals that Fredericksburg is on the move. It's one more reason to be proud of Our Town.
