Ruth R. Gilley

Mrs. Ruth R. Gilley of Stafford County passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at her residence after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Vernon "B" Gilley Sr.; and three sons and their spouses, Vernon and Peggy Jo Gilley of Dumfries, William and E. Ann Gilley of Stafford and Charles and Karen Gilley of Stafford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Ora Lamn; two sisters-in-law, Amelia Revis and Judy Revis; her brother-in-law, Rudolph Gilley; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ruth was a joyful person who took great delight in her family. She was an avid gardener and accomplished needle woman. A person who found and appreciated the beauty of nature around her, she created a nurturing environment for wildlife and children. Ruth was never afraid of hard work and had boundless energy in completing any task. An honest and engaging personality, Ruth was a wonderful friend to many.

The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. Burial will immediately follow in Quantico National Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
