The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office dive team and the agencies that assisted spent endless and tiring hours recently at Lake Anna ["Missing boy's remains recovered," Feb. 18].

Their task was not easy physically or mentally. I want to thank them for their valor and strength during the body-recovery process of "our community's child," Tyreek Davis.

I'm sure many of us wept together when we read that this baby would no longer be alone and finally be put to a peaceful rest.

I feel that letter-writer Kevin Dillard said it all ["Smith's tenure as sheriff is marked by top cop work," Feb. 22], and I want to reinforce his message with my support as well.

I want to say "Thank you" to the men and women of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office, including Sheriff Howard Smith.

I thank them for courageously and professionally protecting our community every day.

They should continue to hold their heads high as their devotion to public service perseveres through this media frenzy.
