Civil War buffs plan to clean up parks April 1
History enthusiasts and preservationists will join forces soon to spruce up the nation's Civil War battlefields, including one in the Fredericksburg area.
Park Day is April 1 and volunteers will do all kinds of work, including raking leaves, picking up trash, painting and building trails.
Among the sites to benefit from Park Day--created by the Civil War Preservation Trust--are Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield, Ga., Perryville Battlefield, Ky., and the Chancellorsville battlefield in Spotsylvania County.
Participants will receive T-shirts and get an opportunity to hear local historians describe the significance of the sites.
