Dorothy Adamson

Dorothy Shaffer Adamson, 85, of DuBois, Pa., formerly of Punxsutaxney, Pa., died Sunday, April 16, 2006, at DuBois Nursing Home.

She was the wife of the late George M. Adamson Sr.

Dorothy was born in Brookville, Pa., on December 18, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Howard and Alice Shaffer. She graduated in 1938 from Brookville High School and then went on to graduate from Clarion Teachers College in 1942. Dorothy did graduate work at Penn State University and Clarion. Her first job was with the DuBois school system as a junior high librarian from 1942 to 1946. Dorothy was then the school librarian at Wilson High School, Erie, Pa., from 1946 to 1950. In 1963 she became the elementary school librarian in Punxsutawney for the next 16 years and retired in 1979.

Dorothy was a member of the Easter Star, AAUW and other service organizations in Punxsutawney. In 1990, Dorothy was named to Who's Who in America. She was a member of Saint Peter's United Church of Christ, Punxsutawney.

Survivors include two daughters, Elin Havrilla and her husband, Robert, of Fredericksburg and Alison Reasinger and her husband, Brian, of Whitehall, Pa.; a son, George Adamson and his wife, Denise, of Burlington, Mass.; three grandchildren, Kathrin Havrilla of Richmond, Kristin Havrilla of Richmond and Mitchel Adamson of Burlington, Mass.; and nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Shaffer.

Friends will be received at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney, Thursday, April 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, April 21, from noon to 1 p.m. A funeral will be held Friday, April 21, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mary Morton officiating. Burial will be in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
