Multicultural Day was a wonderful experience. The students developed an awareness of, and an appreciation for, the similarities and differences among various cultures.

Luis Villarreal gave a wonderful presentation on the Mexican Rodeo and Mrs. Gerlach enchanted the children with stories from Puerto Rico.

First grade studied all about Hawaii and third grade "visited" Germany, Mexico, Ireland, Poland and South Africa.

Myra Garvey talked to the second-grade classes about the Philippines. She talked about culture, food and language. Suna Chang shared a PowerPoint presentation on Korean culture. She also brought snacks for the children to sample and spoke to them about the location, climate, homes, occupations, clothing, and schools in Korea.

Zoli Kerestely spoke to the fourth grades about Hungary. He shared the culture and how residents live today. He also taught the students a few Hungarian words and shared a feast of noodles with walnuts.

Grade five had a feast that included numerous ethnic dishes provided by parents of the students: an Irish Pische, Irish corned beef sandwiches, two Cherokee dishes, two traditional German farmer's dishes, Puerto Rican Sangria, a dish from Belize, Puerto Rican Sugar cookies, Canadian butter cookies, scones, German sausages, shepherd's pie and a potato dish.

Next, was a kickball game. The fifth-graders held a kickball tournament. Lisa Thornton's class won the tournament and the chance to play Margaret Brent's staff. Students had the opportunity to display their youthful talents while the staff proved to be a worthy opponent. The day ended with music playing, students and staff hugging, dancing, singing and lots of cheering from the buses including the bus drivers.
