Is gay marriage more of a 'danger' than Hollywood?

Many letters in recent weeks assert that same-sex marriage undermines the sanctity of traditional marriage ["Same-sex marriage and interracial vows don't equate," Sept. 12].

These defenders of our morality fail to recognize a greater danger to the status quo. One need only review the movie magazines to observe that our role models in Hollywood do more to undermine marriage than gay couples.

When famous movie actors have children out of wedlock, and the public clamors for photographs of such children, what are the youth of America to think about marriage? They must certainly conclude that marriage is not a requirement of parenthood.

So one must then ask which is a greater danger to the institution of marriage--the marriage of a couple whose union cannot lead to children, or children who are borne to heterosexual couples who are not married?
