Thanks for preserving your battlefields, Virginia

Date published: 10/2/2006

Having just learned about the potential rezoning of the property related to the Chancellorsville battlefield along State Route 3 and the relationship being built by the Civil War Preservation Trust and the Toll Brothers, I had to send this letter of thanks and hope for success on the preservation of that significant battlefield area.

I make the trek from my home in Wisconsin to Virginia at least once a year to study the battlefields of the Civil War, this past summer in your area.

The human drama played out on the fields and woods of Spotsylvania County, the historical significance of the former Mullins Farm, and the preservation efforts make me cheer the actions of the Toll Brothers, the CWPT, and the Board of Supervisors for their willingness to consider the rezoning plan.

I sit here in Wisconsin now planning my next trip to Spotsylvania County. Thank you for preserving history.
