Museum's silent auction focuses on getaways

Looking for a weekend trip in Florida? Or how about a day of fishing on the Chesapeake? Are you a Notre Dame fan?

If so, the Fredericksburg Area Museum's 10th annual Silent Auction on Oct. 21 might be interesting.

The event at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center of the University of Mary Washington runs from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost to attend is $75 per person or $125 per couple. The evening includes heavy hors d'ouvres, a chocolate fountain, and live music. All proceeds benefit the museum.

But the real entertainment of the evening is the competitive bidding on some fabulous auction items. There are more than 125 prizes or prize packages up for grabs this year, including a weekend getaway, with airfare, at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla.; a trip for two to New York City, including round-trip train tickets, a tour of the New York Stock Exchange floor, and two nights at the Marriot; a private one-day fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay aboard the boat Tailhook for up to four people; and a tour of the United States Capitol building that includes a personal tour of the offices and the chance to walk through the members-only tunnels from the Longworth building to the Capitol.

Also available will be an autographed rendering of the proposed United States Slavery Museum, signed by the renowned C.C. Pei; a Notre Dame Fighting Irish football helmet autographed by Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana; beautiful jewelry, fine dining packages, local getaway weekends and much more.

To reserve a bidding number, or for details about the auction, call the museum at 540/371-3037 or visit famcc.org.
