Letter-writer Caren Scaife pinpoints one of many factors affecting school safety by proposing that front-desk personnel at least be equipped with a walkie-talkie to alert administration of a potential problem ["Sadly, it's time ," Oct. 8].

Another easily implemented strategy is to require 100 percent of school staff, including custodians and administrators, to wear their school ID badges 100 percent of the time.

Walk into any school in Spotsylvania County and you will note that only about 80 percent of school staff maneuver through hallways wearing the ID badge.

As Ms. Scaife states, we need to stop being so darn complacent about school safety.
