"Local parents calling Nanny 911" [Dec. 12] was such a great story for the season.
It and other inspiring articles addressing the importance of positive role models for our children give a new meaning to "Christmas rush."
Parenting is a tough job. Although a training manual is not provided, training and support are appreciated.
That is what the Rappahannock Area Council for Children and Parents has discovered with its weekly parent support groups, Circle of Parents.
Parents who attend Circle of Parents groups have an opportunity to learn positive parenting skills in a confidential, supportive environment.
Groups meet at seven locations throughout the greater Fredericksburg area. Dinner is provided, followed by programs for children and adults.
And it is absolutely free, there is no waiting list, and referrals are not required.
Since 1989, Circle of Parents families have learned to help themselves while supporting one another. It's a nurturing environment that builds healthy communities.
RACCAP's mission is to promote positive parenting in order to prevent child neglect and abuse.
As with any charity, volunteers are vital. Those interested in learning more about RACCAP's programs or supporting its activities can call the organization for more information.
