Closings for holiday

Here is how area schedules will be affected by the New Year's Day holiday:

Libraries

Central Rappahannock Regional Library and its branches, Smoot Library in King George County and Caroline Library are closed today.

Caroline Library will also be closed tomorrow.

Mail service

Post office service windows closed today. No delivery except Express Mail.

Government offices

Local and state offices, including ABC stores and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, will be closed today.

Federal offices will be closed today, as well as tomorrow--a day of national mourning for former President Gerald R. Ford.

Tourist attractions

The city's Fredericksburg Visitor Center will be closed tomorrow.

The Spotsylvania Visitor Center, National Park Service sites and most area historic sites are closed today.

Trash services

City trash trucks will make their Monday trash and recycling pickups tomorrow. Tuesday trash pickups will be made Wednesday.

The Belman Road Recycling Center in Fredericksburg, the Regional Landfill in Stafford County, the Livingston Landfill in Spotsylvania County, the King George Landfill and the Westmoreland transfer station are closed today.

Caroline County convenience sites are open.

Waste Management, BFI and Shifflett's Trash Service are closed today.

FREDericksburg Regional Transit, FRED Express, National Coach Works, Quick's Bus Line and Virginia Railway Express aren't running today.
