For people who don't necessarily like to work out, a good alternative is yoga. Yoga is relaxing, gets one's heart rate up and is excellent way to get fit. One doesn't have to be super-athletic to engage in it, and yoga is sure not only to help with pesky weight problems, but also to induce a healthy self-image and mental well-being, as meditating is a big part.

It's hard to burn off the fat contained in dairy products when you eat them before bed, so cut that last glass of milk at night.
Don't wait until you're full to stop eating. If you are sick from your huge five-course meals every day, then it's smart to cut those courses down a bit. Remember, food is energy, not comfort.
Last but not least, stay hydrated, and drink water as often as possible. You'll find that you aren't as hungry if you have plenty of water in your diet.
