County hosts meeting
The Stafford County departments of Economic Development and Planning will host a public forum on Thursday to present their economic development and redevelopment vision for Boswell's Corner in the northern part of the county adjacent to Quantico Marine Corps Base. The area encompasses approximately two miles along both sides of U.S. 1 beginning at the border with Prince William County.
"We expect that, as a result of additional jobs on base and the county's overall growth, this area of Stafford will experience significant commercial development within the next few years," Tim Baroody, economic development director, said in a news release. "The county is committed to working with citizens, business owners and consultants to realize our redevelopment goals in a way that will prove most beneficial to everyone."
Staff from both departments will provide an overview at the meeting, including conceptual renderings of proposed office buildings, a corporate center and green spaces. Several maps also will be available for the public to examine.
In addition to county staff, representatives from Quantico Marine Corps Base, Columbia Gas, Verizon, Dominion Power and the Virginia Department of Transportation will provide input about the impact of redevelopment on surrounding neighborhoods.
Local elected officials and representatives from several citizen committees will be in attendance. Members of the Board of Supervisors, Economic Development Authority and Planning Commission will participate in discussions and answer questions from residents and business owners.
The 7 p.m. forum is at Hilldrup Moving and Storage, located at 4022 Jefferson Davis Highway in Stafford.
