A small fire of unknown origin did "insignificant" damage at Caroline Middle School yesterday morning, according to Mark Garnett, the county's deputy director of fire and rescue services.
Garnett said a fire was reported yesterday at 8:53 a.m. in the second-floor audio-visual room and that it was quickly put out by the school's sprinkler system.
He said the AV room sustained smoke and water damage and some water also leaked into the school auditorium on the first floor.
The cause was not considered suspicious, but was being investigated, Garnett said.
School Board member George Spaulding said yesterday the fire would have no impact on students, who will be in class tomorrow.
