Chocolate is a nice treat, but making it can be twice as sweet.
“A Sweet Soirée,” The Fredericksburg Area Service League’s seventh annual Book and Author Event, will feature culinary personality Lora Brody, who will prepare one of her favorite chocolate desserts.
“I’m going to talk a bit about chocolate, I’m going to do a chocolate tasting and then a demonstration of the world’s best and easiest chocolate dessert, called ‘bête noire,’ which is universally loved
“My goal is to have people entertained, well-fed and to learn something about chocolate they didn’t already know.”
According to event co-chair Tristin Fidler, guests can look forward to an evening of chocolate tasting, a cake demonstration and much more during the event, which takes place March 22 at the University of Mary Washington.
“We [Fidler and co-chair Heather Nicholson] chose Lora because we wanted something a little bit different this year,” Fidler said. “We thought it would be fun and entertaining to do some hands-on demonstration.”
Brody, who has been working in the food industry for over two decades, has established herself as a best-selling author, spokesperson, lecturer, cooking instructor and business owner.
Although she has done many events like this one before, Brody said she was very eager to jump at this opportunity because it sounded like a good cause and there is chocolate involved.
“Talking about something I love is easy and fun, too,” she said. “If I got up there and talked about tofu and soy beans, I wouldn’t have nearly as much attention.”
FASL is a nonprofit women’s organization that supports educational and charitable programs benefiting children in Fredericksburg and neighboring communities. All proceeds from the “Sweet Soirée” will benefit local charities affiliated with the FASL.
