Eagles advance in Hawaiian Tropic

Shane Pasanik and Jarrett Parker powered the Eagles with home runs as Colonial Forge defeated Hornell (N.Y.) 11-1 in the opening round of the Hawaiian Topic Classic baseball tournament at Myrtle Beach.

Pasanik finished with four RBIs as he, Parker and Jake Norman had two hits each for the Eagles (3-1), who were slated to take on Whitesboro, N.Y. in another pool-round game this afternoon.

The single-elimination portion of the 46-team tournament begins on Thursday.

Christina Harvey scored once in each half to help visiting Orange get a Jefferson District win last night.

Amanda Hooper got an assist and goalie Ariel Scales earned the shutout for the Hornets (3-3-1, 1-2), who visit Louisa next on Monday.

BOYS SOCCER

Orange 5, Monticello 1

Colin Lawson had a goal and two assists as five players scored in homestanding Orange's Jefferson District win last night.

Jason Washington, Schuyler Whelan, Rick Mittler and Matt Cronin also scored with Cody Fincham, Elliott Gillan and Adam Jacques getting assists.

Goalie Joe Morrison made three saves for the Hornets (6-1, 3-0), who entertain Louisa on Monday.
