Spotsy residents, help is just a radio call away

This is in response to Angela Litton's letter ["Spotsy fire and rescue have countywide gaps," April 10].

Spotsylvania County residents are safe at night and during the weekends. Ms. Litton's letter puts an unfounded fear in county residents for no reason.

If she ran with Spotsylvania County, she would know that the EMT-basic providers are not put on ambulances directly out of class.

I am an EMT-basic life support provider, certified with the commonwealth of Virginia and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. In addition, I'm a CPR/AED/First Aid instructor with the American Red Cross.

Not only did I run with the squad and observe during the four months of classroom instruction, I was assigned a preceptor for about five months after receiving my certification to ensure that I had the necessary skills to respond to medical emergencies.

When there is a need for advanced life support, they're only a radio call away.

Please get the facts straight before accusing the county of not providing adequate care. On a positive note, perhaps Ms. Litton should dust off her shoes, come back, and help us out!
