Mittler's header gives Orange district victory

Rick Mittler scored twice and assisted another goal as the Orange boys soccer team got a 3-2 Jefferson District win at Fluvanna last night.

Mittler headed home the game-winner moments before halftime to give the Hornets (9-2, 6-1) the 3-2 advantage.

Josh Washington added a goal and an assist for Orange, which entertains Western Albemarle next Wednesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Fred. Academy 3, Way of Faith 0

Nia Jones and Brittany McNabb each had a goal and an assist for the Falcons. Amanda Gage also scored and Jessica Buono and Jamie West had strong performances for the Falcons (2-6, 2-3), who host Steward School today.

BOYS LACROSSE

North Stafford 18, Mountain View 3

Brendan Sullivan scored six goals and Iric Bressler added five scores and an assist to lead homestanding North Stafford to Commonwealth District win last night.

Jake Hammond score twice and Steven Jones had a goal and two assists for the Wolverines (9-1, 7-0). J.D. Walker, Brandon Booth, Brian Beckton and Craig Wools also scored.

Daniel McCarron had all three goals for the Wildcats.

colonial forge 15, brooke point 7

Aedan Herman tallied seven goals as the homestanding Eagles won in yesterday's Commonwealth District action.

Scott Seigner had four goals and an assist for the winners, while Rob Rebby racked up three goals and an assist for Colonial Forge (7-5, 4-3).

Spencer Scott led Brooke Point with three goals.

Fred. Academy 8, R-MA 3

Adam Grabfelder scored three goals and added an assist in Fredericksburg Academy's Delaney Athletic Conference win at Randolph-Macon Academy yesterday.

Thomas Hughes, Raleigh Hazel, Mike Detrane, Mike Berry and Philip Jackson each scored once. Detrane (two), Hazel and Brock Martin picked up assists for the Falcons.

BASEBALL

Chancellor 10, Freedom 0

Brandon Pastell and Ben Beacorn each had two hits and two runs scored as visiting Chancellor got a nondistrict win yesterday.

Jeff Rawlings pitched six inning for the win for the Chargers (6-4), who visit Spotsylvania tomorrow.

After the Drifters (17-4) overcame a late-game deficit with four runs in the top of the seventh inning, Brent Steffey slammed the door in relief, striking out two of the last three batters he faced.

Steven Taylor hit the game-winning two run blast and Steffey had two RBI doubles and scored a run.

Colonial Beach visits King George tomorrow.
