Habitat group seeks variety of volunteers
It takes a lot more than hammers and nails to get people out of substandard houses and into new homes.
The Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers and will hold an orientation June 21 at 7 p.m. for anyone interested in helping the group build homes for needy area residents.
The local habitat chapter doesn't just need people to swing a hammer or paint a house, said Patty Lillicotch, volunteer coordinator. It needs cashiers for the resale store, committee members, volunteer greeters, lunch makers and more.
Tomorrow and next Saturday, the group needs people to work on a house near Lake Anna. Volunteers will clear brush and level the ground to get the site ready for construction. Work will start at 9 a.m.
To volunteer, call 540/891-5009 or visit fredhab.org.
Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian ministry headquartered in Americus, Ga., that helps low-income people reach the goal of homeownership.
