Recently I donated blood through the American Red Cross. And while the procedure wasn't any more painful than a routine venipuncture, I was surprised to find that I developed significant swelling and bruising.
Following the written instructions, I called the Red Cross office and spoke with a nurse who, after asking many detailed questions, reassured me that my experience wasn't unusual and gave me precise instructions to alleviate my symptoms.
Over the next few days, the nurse called twice to check on my progress and to thank me for my donation.
I commend the American Red Cross for their excellent customer service skills while helping maintain the availability of a safe community blood supply.
I will definitely donate blood again and hope others will, too.
