Get America back on track: Toss illegals

Get America back on track: Toss illegals

I had to shake my head at Debbie Revely's letter concerning illegal aliens ["Illegal immigrants do the jobs too many won't do," July 25]. Sadly, Ms. Revely has fallen victim to two common misconceptions.

First, they are "illegal aliens." That is the accepted term, the one used in congressional bills and legal writings. They are not migrant workers, temporary workers, displaced immigrants, or the like. They are illegal aliens, period.

Second, this country was not magically produced. We managed to dig ditches, build highways, construct houses and skyscrapers and bridges--all without illegal aliens being paid pennies an hour.

They do not do jobs we have shirked. To the contrary: They take pay that no one with any common sense would take. Why? It is what the contractor, superintendent, or restaurant owner gets away with paying them.

If these illegal aliens were not here breaking the law by their mere presence, employers would have to pay minimum wage or better to legal, taxpaying Americans.

When we stop regurgitating incorrect information about illegal aliens and start throwing them out of the country, you'll see how many Americans are ready to step in and fill their shoes; and employers will step up to the plate, albeit reluctantly, to pay what the work is worth.

This is the only path back to the great nation we have slipped away from.

"Speach" is spelled s-p-e-e-c-h, and "critisizing" is spelled c-r-i-t-i-c-i-z-i-n-g.

I immediately started to right when I saw that you already stated the HIGHLY obvious observation that this country from Jamestown onward used slavery to build itself including the nation's capital building. This seemed to have been missed by dear mr. schlatter. I wonder if his heritage is from the south, which would make his error even more remarkable. By the way, given walmart, nike and many other companies, it appears that the use of slaves is still in vogue to make money.

Really?? (posted by AtackDuck , Sep. 25, 2007 2:41 pm)
So we have been using slavery since 1870 to build our country? I'm sure Jesse Jackson and Eleanor Holmes-Norton would love to hear that one! Care to try again?

In reference to "We managed to dig ditches, build highways, construct houses and skyscrapers and bridges--all without illegal aliens being paid pennies an hour." We didn't need illegal immigrants....we used slavery

everybody got way off course on this one (posted by travelin_bone , Sep. 25, 2007 2:41 pm)
This isn't a lib/cons issue, it's a matter of what the law says, protecting our nation's financial resources, and not being seen as So. America's mammy who turns a blind eye to this illegal behavior. Sure, they provide cheap labor (translation: exploitation) but they also overcrowd the welfare, school, court systems. NOTHING is being done! If I came into your backyard and set up a home, took your things, tapped into your power source, and invited all my family, wouldn't you say something?!?!

What do you think?
