Congratulations to the city of Fredericksburg, hard-working city staff, and area business leaders who teamed up to shepherd the process of bringing the national headquarters of the American Canoe Association to Fredericksburg ["Fredericksburg makes an offer canoe association can't refuse," Aug. 22].

ACA will be a strong asset in the Fredericksburg area and the Rappahannock River watershed. Two individuals, Ed Sharp and Bill Micks, worked long and hard behind the scenes and merit special recognition and thanks.

Ed is a board member of ACA and first brought Fredericksburg and the Rappahannock River to the attention of ACA when it began its search for a new home with a water connection.

Bill Micks has been a tireless supporter of the Rappahannock and was instrumental in helping bring diverse elements together to make this happen. Both are volunteer leaders in Friends of the Rappahannock.

Fredericksburg is lucky to have volunteers such as these to help our region grow and prosper and to promote actions by governments and businesses to help protect the Rappahannock River and valuable remaining open, natural spaces.
