'Study' immigration? Why not actually do something?
It's no wonder there are so many perceived inefficiencies in government.
After reading Stafford Supervisor Mark Dudenhefer's approach to understanding the impact of illegal immigration in Stafford ["Stafford to study immigrants' impact," Sept. 1], I walked away feeling somewhat vindicated for believing such inefficiencies exist.
While Dudenhefer's approach may sound valiant--"bring in our own people and take a Stafford approach" (which, by the way, seems to be to draw things out long enough that they may go away, like the transportation issue)--it is an incredible waste of resources and time, and demonstrates an ineffective "good ol' boy" mentality.
Supervisor Paul Milde is on the right course and is demonstrating the kind of common sense we need to be successful.
If surrounding counties are leading the country right now in addressing illegal immigration, why is Stafford heading off in its own direction and trying to reinvent the wheel? This is not an issue unique to Stafford. We should be leveraging what other counties are learning to help us get up to speed faster so we can get our arms around this issue.
Why are we going to study the cost of illegal immigration in Stafford anyway? Is there a threshold that will make illegal immigration OK as long as the cost of providing services falls below that threshold?
Is the board planning to send illegal immigrants a bill for services rendered? I am sure we can identify more effective areas to invest that money in than to confirm that Stafford is in the same boat as surrounding counties.
Here is a preview of the findings of the study: People who use hospitals and schools without paying taxes or other bills raise the cost of those services for the rest of us. Epic, isn't it?

for calling Dudenhefer out on his "joke" to house illegal immigrants in a concentration camp at the landfill. And thumbs down to Dudenhefer for blaming "people in the audience out to get him" rather than apologizing for making a joke in such poor taste.

Children of illegal immigrants should NOT automatically become citizens. I don't care if they were born on the White House lawn. To stop illegal immigration, you need to remove the benefits of it. Stop giving illegal aliens free stuff... stop giving them jobs... stop granting their kids citizenship status. I don't want to pay the medical bills of illegal immigrants crossing the border illegally so their child can be a US citizen. Stop the insanity!

In 1982 in Plyler v. Doe the US supreme court ruled, consistent with the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, that we may not deny to undocumented school-age children the public education that it provides to children who are citizens of the United States or legally admitted aliens.

Stop trying to change the focus of the issue. The issue is ILLEGAL ALIENS, not their ethnic background. We, the people that are against supporting ILLEGAL ALIENS, do not distinguish between nationalities. You cannot accuse anyone of racism just because the majority of ILLEGAL ALIENS in this area happen to be Hispanic. Hispanic or not, ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL, and you sir are trying to cover that part up. You expect me and everyone else to forget that ILLEGAL ALIENS cost us money at a minimum. Explain yourself.
No where in his letter did he say anything about race. You did, and I believe you wish to make it a race issue. Let me clear it up for you: IT'S NOT A RACE ISSUE! Fact: there are a lot of Hispanics in the area. A lot of them do not speak English. A lot drive cars with out of state tags. There are also a lot of Asians here too, as well as Europeans and Africans. If they're legal, fine. If they're not, they are a problem, and need to leave. You are trying to create an issue where there is none.
