Police say spitter got hospital trip

Rough night for security guard, spitting man

Date published: 10/30/2007

BY KEITH EPPS

A young man who reportedly spit on a security guard at a Fredericksburg party late Saturday was taken to the hospital after the guard responded with a punch to the head, police said.

The ruckus erupted about 11:20 p.m. at the VFW Lodge at 2701 Princess Anne St., city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. The lodge had been rented out for a private party.

According to a police report, the ruckus started when an intoxicated 19-year-old Spotsylvania man entered the lodge and spit on the floor.

The security officer, a 25-year-old Spotsylvania man, followed the spitter into the bathroom and told him he would have to leave.

Two other men intervened at that point, Bledsoe said, and one of them placed a knife to the throat of the security guard.

The other man pulled his friend away from the security guard, and they left before police arrived, Bledsoe said.

She said a number of party patrons acknowledged seeing the knife incident, but no one gave police a name.

Meanwhile, the man who was told to leave, spit in the face of the security guard. The guard responded with a punch that knocked the man to the ground and led to the hospital visit.

Bledsoe said she had no information about the seriousness of the man's injuries.

No charges had been filed as of last night. An investigation is continuing.

to REALDEAL (posted by theobc , Oct. 30, 2007 6:23 pm)
i don't see anywhere in the article where it indicated that it wasn't handlled PROFESSIONALLY. the idiot spit in the man's face. the fact the he came in and spit on the floor indicated that he didn't have much respect for himself. I don't see how a "real" cop would have changed anything. someone like that doesn't have respect for himself isn't going to let the fact that the person speaking to him has a "real badge" alter his behavior. there are too many dead cops to prove that i am right about that.

The guard is the victim! Why would you think that it is alright to spit in anyone's face, period. That's the lowest. And who knows what germs were in that spit!!!!! Come on.

Term (Rent-a-cop) (posted by Scorpiolady2 , Oct. 30, 2007 12:48 pm)
This was a really bad thing to have happened and out of controll. Pleple just don't know how to act anymore. Even more what to say. The term rent-a-cop is no laughing matter to a security officer. They put them selves at great risk on the job and are taken much too lightly considering all that they have to do in order to become an officer. A backgroung check, intense training, studing and must pass a DCJS exam. God's blessings to all officers on thier JOB.

As I missing something? (posted by travelin_bone , Oct. 30, 2007 10:06 am)
I don't see "rent-a-cop" used

Should've hired a REAL cop...... (posted by theREALdeal , Oct. 30, 2007 9:22 am)
If they would have come up off the money and hired a REAL cop, the situation could have been handled more professionally and the knife wielding suspect would have been caught as well. You get what you pay for!
